Setting up the Environment

Openerp depends in many packages in-order to work on Ubuntu. The easiest way to install them is by using the following command:

sudo apt-get install <package name>

This is a list of the 24 packages needed for Openerp 6.1

Later on you can download the debian package from Openerp website and double click the icon to install it.

أوبنتو 10.10 لينتقل إلي وحدات النظام العشري

لتدعم الإصدارات الجديدة من نظام التشغيل أوبنتو بداية من الإصدارة 10.10 الوحدات العشرية لعرض بيانات الملفات الموجودة، فحالياً أبنتو يدعم نظام الوحدات الثنائي (Base-2) اي ان كل (1 كيلوبايت) = (1024 بايت)، و لكن بداية من الإصدارة 10.10 سيتحول أبنتو إلي وحدات النظام العشري (Base-10)، اي ان كل (1 كيلوبايت) = (1000 بايت)، و كل (1 ميجا بايت) = (1000 كيلو بايت)، و كل (1 جيجا بايت) = (1000 ميجا بايت) و هكذا، و كل ذلك من أجل التسهيل علي المستخدم في حساب مساحات التخزين.

و قد كان من المخطط سابقاً ان يدعم الإصدار 10.04 هذا النظام إلا انه كان هناك العديد من البرامج غير المتوافقة مع هذا النظام العشري، و لذلك تم القيام بوضع سياسة أتاحت للبرامج العمل بنظام واحد و لا يجوز الخلط في إستخدام الاثنين:

وحدات النظام الثنائي المعيارية و المصدق عليها من قبل (IEC):

واحد كي بي بايت (1 KiB or kibibyte)	=	1024 بايت
واحد مي بي بايت (1 MiB or mebibyte)	=	1024 كي بي بايت = 1048576 بايت
واحد جي بي بايت (1 GiB or gibibyte)	=	1024 مي بي بايت = 1048576 كي بي بايت = 1073741824 بايت
واحد تيرا بايت (1 TiB or tebibyte)	=	1024 جي بي بايت = 1048576 مي بي بايت = 1073741824 كي بي بايت = 1099511627776 بايت

وحدة (KiB or kibibyte) هي إختصار لــ (Kilo Binary Byte)

اما وحدات النظام العشري و المصدق عليها من قبل (SI):

واحد كيلو بايت (1 kb or kilobyte)	1000 بايت
واحد ميجا بايت (1 MB or megabyte)	1000 كيلو بايت = 1000000 بايت
واحد جيجا بايت (1 GB or gigabyte)	1000 ميجا بايت = 1000000 كيلو بايت = 1000000000 بايت
واحد تيرا بايت (1 TB or terabyte )	1000 جيجا بايت = 1000000 ميجا بايت = 1000000000 كيلو بايت = 1000000000000 بايت

كما وصت المنظمتين علي إستخدام النظام العشري في تحديد سرعة نقل البيانات و تحديد مساحات وحدات التخزين اما لمساحات الذاكرة ان يستخدم النظام الثنائي، و بالنسبة لعرض مساحة الملفات فهذه يمكن للمستخدم إختيار النظام المناسب له علي ان يكون الوضع الإفتراضي هو النظام العشري.

و يتم تقييم الإسطوانات المدمجة بالنظام الثنائي (MiB) إلا انه يتم وضع قرائة عليها بـ (MB)، فمساحة الإسطوانة المدمجة المكتوب عليها 700MB تكون بالفعل 700MiB و هي تساوي 737MB.

كما ان شركة آبل قد قامت بالإنتقال بالفعل إلي النظام العشري و من النتوقع ان شركة ميكروسوف ستقوم بالإنتقال في الإصدار القادم لويندوز.

andLinux uses coLinux which makes it different from Wubi installation which makes you need to boot your PC to switch to Ubuntu OS and it's different from Virtual Machine installation (emulated PC) which isn't efficient.

Why not use Linux??

In Egypt, starting your small business as an internet café is a good idea as it’s very profitable and easy to start. However it faces many risks that could get you out of the road and make you stop. It’s all because of the technology itself. Day by day there is something new and forces you to be up to date and eats your cash. Unfortunately, many Internet café owners in Egypt know nothing about Linux and they thought the only software companies that offer operating systems is Microsoft and Mac. One day, I asked one of the owners to install a Linux distro and I showed him this also I told him it’s a free license. He replied me “FREE, it may be a shareware or for a limited period of time”. Definitely I was shocked. However I persuaded him how it’s important to use Linux>

So does Linux suit that business????

Sure, it does. There are many energy companies in Egypt such as Eni Group use Linux. This means it’s very stable and secure. But you may get confused when it comes to choose your distro. You may choose Ubuntu because it supports many drivers and it’s easy to install. Also see this.

Besides, software tools for maintenance which you use to have on windows like Deepe Freeze is available for Linux here and Zencafe as an alternative for EasyCafe which lack many security features , Zencafe available here. Practically Ubuntu needs no maintenance.

Does Ubuntu satisfy my clients’ needs?

Most of your client needs two things to browse internet, running games applications or use word processing software. Ubuntu includes Firefox internet browser, which supports the latest internet technologies. It supports “Moonlight” as well as “adobe flash”. So your clients won’t face any problems while browsing internet. Also Ubuntu includes OpenOffice which satisfy you and your clients needs and they can use it as a substitute of Microsoft office. To run win windows application or windows games you can use wine.
